Why Intellectual Property Rights and Brands Matter to Our Community

SMEs face a range of challenges — from early-stage startups struggling with funding to mature businesses that can survive but not scale. Many owners find themselves working long hours just to stay afloat, with little time left for rest, friends, or family.

We all know the solution lies in attracting investment. But for many SMEs, investment remains out of reach. Why? Because SMEs are often perceived as high-risk — lacking in assets, collateral, visibility, and transparency. This is a major obstacle.

At GoSME, we’re starting a movement to change that.

The Value of Intellectual Property Rights and Brands

Many small business owners have valuable know-how and expertise — but they don’t realise this can be transformed into investable, scalable intellectual property rights. This untapped potential is a goldmine.

At GoSME, our mission is to help SMEs uncover this hidden value. By turning expertise into strong, recognisable brands, we make businesses more attractive to investors. And by doing this together as a community, we increase everyone’s chances of success.

Why Community Matters to Us

One of the biggest risk investors face with SMEs is a lack of visibility and transparency. Unlike large, publicly listed companies, SMEs aren’t held to the same reporting standards — making it harder for investors to assess risk and often leading them to walk away.

But there’s a powerful solution.

As Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus once highlighted, community visibility is a form of collateral. When your business is part of a trusted, transparent community, your brand reputation becomes your guarantee. Investors are more confident when they see a business that is known, supported, and vouched for by others.

That’s why GoSME isn’t just a platform — it’s a community-led movement to build collective trust, shared value, and easier access to funding.

Jonathan Goh

Founder

Throughout my life, SMEs have played a vital role in my growth. As a child, I watched my dad run a small law firm and my mum manage a boutique shop – businesses that provided for our family and helped put me through law school. Even now, as a young adult, SMEs continue to shape my daily life, from the local food shops I order from to the small businesses I support on online. I deeply understand their importance. Now, having graduated from law school, my mission is to share my knowledge of intellectual property to help SMEs move beyond survival and focus on growth – the same way they have helped me grow.

Nicole Vivienne Wee

Director of Investor Relations

As Director of Investor Relations at GoSME, I help small business owners make sense of what investors really want — turning complex financial concepts and investment terms into clear, actionable insights. Before joining GoSME, I spent over 20 years at a leading Singapore-based law firm supporting SMEs. My work focused on planning, coordinating, and managing the successful completion of client projects — always on time, and on budget. With a keen eye for detail, I’ve built a reputation for identifying risks early, analysing them clearly, and putting in place practical, effective solutions. At GoSME, I bring this same discipline and clarity to the investment process — helping entrepreneurs understand how to position their brands, structure their IPs, and present their business in a way that builds investor confidence. My goal is to make investment readiness feel achievable, not overwhelming
